Hem is a well-rounded executive and investment professional with deep business experiences across several industries, geographies and functions through plant operations, corporate, investment banking and research roles. He has a distinguished track-record of generating significant stakeholder value and operational excellence while leading diverse stakeholders, all the way from founders, board of directors and C-suite professionals to shop-floor associates, on strategic initiatives touching all aspects of the business. Hem has been consistently recognized for his business acumen, strategy, execution and leadership skills across multiple platforms.
Immediately prior to founding ClearVision Equity Partners, Hem acted as the Interim CEO of HealthLift, a healthcare efficiency start-up, and worked closely with its founder to refine the business model, strategy and as well as execution roadmap. Before HealthLift, Hem was a Vice President of Strategy & Transformation at Mitchell International – a KKR private equity portfolio company and a leading cost-containtment solutions provider to the Property & Casualty insurance industry in North America. At Mitchell, he helped establish the company’s corporate development function. In this role, he led numerous mergers & acquisitions (M&A) initiatives, including the due diligence and purchase of small- to mid-sized businesses (>$200M in aggregate enterprise value) to support Mitchell’s expansion into new markets and products. He was also instrumental in the post-merger integration and transformation of these new acquisitions to enable their full growth and margin potential realization. He was also part of the core team that helped Aurora Capital sell Mitchell to KKR in 2013 for over $1.1 billion.
While at Mitchell, Hem also played a pivotal on numerous enterprise-wide transformation and productivity initiatives including the design and implementation of KKR’s 100 Day Plan to help realize over $25 million in operating profit improvement through top-line and bottom-line actions, business process outsourcing, real-estate portfolio management, benefits redesign and optimization, and travel spend management. In addition, Hem evangelized and created the corporate strategic sourcing function and optimized over $100 million of third party spend spanning the enterprise and saved over $10M in annual costs.
Prior to Mitchell, Hem worked on Wall Street as an investment banker for Deustche Bank in its New York office where he advised C-level executives and private investors on strategic acquisition, divestiture and capital raise activities. Earlier in his career, Hem worked in revenue management at United Airlines where he helped with the design and implementation of a state-of-the-art demand forecasting solution for United’s global network. Prior to United, he worked in industrial engineering and operations at the Kansas City, KS plant for ConAgra Foods, one of the world’s largest food processing companies, and led the turnaround of the plant by increasing its productivity by over 85% in just 30 months. He also has first-hand experience in developing software products, did extensive software coding and wrote complex maths algorithms to solve large-scale business problems in his early days.
Hem has an MBA from Harvard Business School, an MS in Industrial Engineering from University of Illinois and a BTech in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi. He currently serves on the boards of ClearPath ADM, Doctible and Tourmaline Labs and is a board advisor to General Forensics. In his spare time, Hem loves to travel, run, read, and spend time with his family.
